Electronic Spectroscopy of Amino and Hydroxy Anthraquinones (Paperback): Mohd Shahid Khan Electronic Spectroscopy of Amino and Hydroxy Anthraquinones (Paperback)
Mohd Shahid Khan
R1,784 Discovery Miles 17 840 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The amino and hydroxy anthraquinones possess numerous chemically and biologically significant properties and as a group are also of considerable practical importance in the production of dyes & intermediates and as model compounds to gain fundamental information. These derivatives of anthraquinones have found important applications as prominent family of pharmaceutically active and biologically relevant chromophores. A detailed and comprehensive study of electronic absorption spectra of anthraquinone and its hydroxy and amino derivatives and their theoretical interpretation are presented. The effect of solvents on the electronic absorption spectra of anthraquinones is studied using twenty four solvents of different polarities. A careful study of the effect of solvents on the electronic spectra of anthraquinones reveals that the hydrogen bonding effects are of considerable importance in understanding the spectral shifts in the charge transfer transitions. The spectral shifts in various solvents indicate that their values mainly depend on the strength of the hydrogen bonds between the substituent groups and the solvent molecules and the extent of the intramolecular hydrogen bonding.

Semiconductor Clusters (Paperback): Ziaul Raza Khan, Mohd Shahid Khan, M. Zulfequar Semiconductor Clusters (Paperback)
Ziaul Raza Khan, Mohd Shahid Khan, M. Zulfequar
R1,292 Discovery Miles 12 920 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Semiconductor clusters have one extraordinarily important property that on doping and on changes in size, their properties change appreciably and in a controllable way. Current research into semiconductor clusters is focused on the properties of thin films having nanometre range grain size. The wide range of optical and electrical properties of II-VI group compounds make them an important class of materials and competing candidates for silicon and other semiconductor materials in photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications. In this monograph, the structural, spectroscopic and optoelectronic properties of Cadmium Sulfide, Cadmium Telluride and Zinc Oxide thin films are studied in detail. The effects of substrate and grain size on structural and optical properties of these materials are also discussed. Moreover, the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles and fabrication of ZnO thin films by the sol-gel methods and their spectroscopic characterization are described. The ab-initio DFT calculations are carried for the computations of the DOS and band structures of the CdS hexagonal wurtzite, CdTe zinc blende and ZnO hexagonal wurtzite. Effect of Cd dopping in ZnO is also studied theoretically.

Spectroscopy of Fullerenes in Solutions (Paperback): Darakhshan Qaiser, Mohd Shahid Khan, Zahid H. Khan Spectroscopy of Fullerenes in Solutions (Paperback)
Darakhshan Qaiser, Mohd Shahid Khan, Zahid H. Khan
R1,288 Discovery Miles 12 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Fullerenes are the third allotrope of carbon and have received much attention due to their unique properties. In this monograph on 'Optical Gain and Relaxation Mechanism of Fullerenes in Solutions', the effect of concentration of Fullerenes C60 and C70 molecules on their fluorescence spectra are studied in detail. Moreover, Forster's Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) from different dyes to the fullerenes are investigated and it has been found that Fullerene C60 -Coumarin C440 pair and also Fullerene C70 - Quinizarine pair may be used as spectroscopic rulers. Time Resolved Spectra of both the fullerenes in pure as well as in mixture form were measured and the results show that the optical gain is concentration-dependent and only Fullerene C70 shows positive gain, which can be used as a lasing material.

E-Jihad (Paperback): Shahid Khan E-Jihad (Paperback)
Shahid Khan
R504 Discovery Miles 5 040 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The world focusses on the gory aspects of the war on terror, unmindful of a far more insidious form of combat taking place elsewhere. It is an unglamorous but far more deadly war; the warriors are pieces of digital code and the battlefield is Cyberspace. E-Jihad is the story of that conflict. It traces the origin of this form of warfare to the very same location from where the first computer virus emerged; Pakistan. Unlike the virus which was just a juvenile prank, the new code is designed for a specific purpose; to fight evil. It is Jihad in its pristine form. This is not a book, it is a magical flying carpet woven in words. Climb aboard for an amazing journey across the world crisscrossing Pakistan, Afghanistan, Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East. As you travel this wondrous, convoluted route, learn how the first digital warrior was deployed on the World Wide Web. Gain a stunning insight into net-centric warfare and its evolution. Learn about Islam, Muslims, Jihad and how the nature of War has changed. E-Jihad is a work of fiction. You may elect to believe otherwise.

Ethnological Significance of Esoteric Doctrine (Paperback): Muhammad Shahid Khan Ethnological Significance of Esoteric Doctrine (Paperback)
Muhammad Shahid Khan
R2,063 Discovery Miles 20 630 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The book is about the anthropological inquiry in the domain of politics, that would opened the way to delineate the ethnic issues with ethnicists' and nationalists' own perspective. However, by focusing on the role of intelligentsia and nationalists to conceive nationalist doctrine and then made possible the outreach of that doctrine is unique way of looking 'into past through present' by focusing on the status of contemporary Saraiki nationalism. The search for an ideological basis of the Pakistani state or nation has to go beyond Islamic universalism and the two-nation theory and look for a non-coercive territorial Pakistani identity born out of the free interplay of diverse ethnic identities that throng the Pakistani socio-cultural universe. However, the research is comprehensive that not only enfolds the relationship of language with identity, culture, ethnicity, and nationalism and emergence of ethno-lingual nationalist movements along with real causes of ethnicity in Pakistan, but also comprehensively understands the emergence and establishment of Saraiki nationalism, the cultural, political and administrative grievances of Saraiki community.

Supervisory Hybrid Control (Paperback): M. Shahid Khan Supervisory Hybrid Control (Paperback)
M. Shahid Khan
R2,072 Discovery Miles 20 720 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A supervisory hybrid control design approach is proposed for the operation and control of a wind energy conversion and battery storage system during grid-connected and in islanded operation. A finite hybrid-automata based modeling paradigm for the system is presented. The proposed model defines the allowable operating states and inter-state transition paths managed by the supervisory control layer. The subject system has been partitioned into three independent system modules using a modular control design approach. The supervisory control layer combines and configures control schemes of the constituent modules to suite the requirements of operation during any one operating state of the system. Transition management strategies implemented through the supervisory control layer ensure smooth inter-state transitions and bumpless switching among regulators. Detailed mathematical models of the system are provided in each operating state. Frequency domain linear analysis and time domain electromagnetic transient simulations are presented for the microgrid system under steady state and dynamic operating conditions including temporary faults on the utility grid.
